Summary

We seek a General Manager for a luxury wilderness resort in the British Columbia. The successful candidate will have experience as General Manager in similar environment and embrace the outdoors while sharing our beautiful province with guests from near and far. This position is fulltime year-round; the season runs from April and October during that time the GM schedule is 21 in and 10 out. During the off season the position can be done from a home office or the head office in Victoria. This position is accountable for the overall lodge operations including: staff leadership, teams responsible for guest relations, facilities, equipment, logistics, rebooking sales and community relations. As the leader of a team of 80+ you are a self-starter, hands on leader that can delegate and communicate the business objectives to the staff and clients alike. This position reports to the owners who have had this property in their family for over 40 years.

Description

  • Collaborating and interpreting the Owner’s vision and values.
  • Lead and inspire employees, while supporting their professional growth, parallel to the growth of the business.
  • Responsible for administration and execution of operational business plans, policies, and budgets
  • Build employee alignment with the company’s vision and goals.
  • Serve as the internal and external leader of the organization.
  • Responsible for the presentation and execution of annual business plans and budgets to be presented to the shareholders.
  • Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization.
  • Provide for all staff a strong day-to- day leadership presence bridging the departments and provide support among all staff.
  • Lead, mentor and manage performance of direct reports.
  • Ensure all areas of the business are properly resourced and managed including finance and administration (IT), operations, revenue generation, marketing, human resources and asset management.
  • Ensure the effective design and delivery of hospitality that is aligned with our brand and stated vision.
  • Interpret the Owner’s vision and execute in operational business plans.
  • Dealmaker, catalyst, initiator to expand the impact of company mission.
  • Provide leadership in representation of company interests (negotiation, dealings with regulators, and vendors etc.);
  • Manage relationships with business and professional associations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality or Business Administration or relevant field experience.
  • Proven experience as a General Manager or similar role in a resort or adventure tourism environment.
  • 10+ years of experience in management.
  • 7+ years of experience in either human resources or staffing
  • Understanding of business functions such as finance, HR, and marketing.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and business development.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and disseminate information.
  • Ability to transfer Owners visions into smart business plans that measure return on investment.
  • Experience with capital expenditure projections and seeing plans to fruition.
  • Excellent written, oral, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Proven organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proven experience with successfully managing complex budgets.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance metrics for impact reporting.
  • Working knowledge of IT and business infrastructure.
  • Comfortable using MS Office suite.
