This unisex apparel retailer is working to provide Canadians with amazing denim and other complementary fashion categories. They are able to provide their coast-to-coast customers with both men’s and women’s casual wear through their over 50 store locations and e-commerce channels. They are a division of the largest Canadian-owned and operated specialty apparel groups. They seek a Director of Stores who will play a leadership role in the successful establishment of their business operations. You will maintain and improve the successful operations of the business to maximize sales and profitability by leading the store operations leadership team across the company. You will be responsible for Store Operations Strategy, Driving Profitable Results, Maximizing the Customer Experience and Leading People Management. This position can operate anywhere in Western in a major city in Western Canada.

Store Operations Strategy


  • Lead the direction for overall store operations business strategies, including a short and long term strategic plan
  • Develop strategic plans to ensure innovative practices are being implemented to support the economic growth of the company
  • Monitor the business trends of the organization to determine what areas of the current strategic plan are strong and what areas need to be improved upon
  • Direct the design, development, implementation, and oversight of strategies for the company
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on competitor activities; make recommendations based on findings/opportunities discovered
  • Set strategic, organization-wide goals/objectives and ensure the implementation of planning initiatives to ensure strategic growth
  • Track strategy implementation through a variety of reporting processes
  • Collaborate to plan and develop sales strategies to improve market share across all product lines and contribute to the overall company revenue
  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contribute to the overall business strategy and brand goals


Driving Profitable Results


  • Lead, motivate and mobilize teams in order to deliver results
  • Conduct effective, structured and timely store visits
  • Use the Key Performance Indicators to highlight priorities and increase sales performance
  • Analyze the business on a weekly basis and implement action plans to close potential gaps
  • Manage overall profitability by managing all operational costs for the retail network to ensure optimal profitability
  • Lead and actively participate in the retail performance cycles (weekly, monthly and quarterly business reviews)
  • Ensure adherence of compliance guidelines – policies, processes, etc.


Maximizing Customer Experience


  • Coach and monitor brand’s customer service core values; service and customer engagement
  • Monitor all customer feedback and improve service levels
  • Achieves non-financial goals by setting and communicating standards in all aspects of store operations, and establishing and implementing programs and recognition tools to support the achievement of standards
  • Oversees the development of visual presentation and marketing strategies, and store design concepts by providing a clear view of divisional strategy and corporate guidelines
  • Mobilize teams to support the omni-channel strategy

Leading People Management


  • Champion the brand’s values and ensure that it is a great place to work; support initiatives for a healthy, fun and positive work environment
  • Source, hire, coach, develop and retain highly skilled and motivated management team
  • Assess management performance through structured performance reviews
  • Lead performance management and all team member relations aspects
  • Train, coach, and guide management utilizing a variety of techniques that will ensure learning and talent development
  • Manage talents review and build succession plans for teams to ensure future growth
  • Ensure safe working conditions with health & safety as a corporate priority
  • Strategically collaborate in partnership with HR Stakeholders


  • Passion for their product and the apparel retail industry
  • Experienced in leading multi-location teams in the retail fashion industry; has a high level of business acumen and management experience
  • People-oriented leader who can support, motivate and manage others while fostering teamwork and collaboration
  • Able to communicate effectively to customers, sales associates, Business Development Leaders (district managers), and corporate stakeholders
  • Ability to quickly review and evaluate financial and business indicators and draw out observations and insights
  • Results-driven orientation with high-level strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in a variety of presentation settings; strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to support travelling requirements as per the needs of the business
