They are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Human Resources to lead and champion their People Services team. As the Director, you will manage the day-to-day operations of their HR department, overseeing staffing, performance management, training, employee relations, and more. Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, you will work closely with retail and corporate teams to ensure a positive and compliant workplace across Canada.

Description

  • Lead the HR department with a team of HR Generalists, HR/Payroll Administrators, and a Retail Recruitment Lead.
  • Oversee staffing, new store openings, HR operations, performance management, onboarding, training, and employee relations.
  • Implement strategic initiatives that align HR activities with company goals.
  • Manage wage increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies.
  • Ensure appropriate employee scheduling and approve vacation requests.
  • Develop performance goals and targets, ensuring they align with company objectives.
  • Administer progressive discipline procedures and coach HR team members.
  • Collaborate with department managers to plan human resources requirements.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify areas for development.
  • Lead workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and maintain relations with unions and representatives.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Lead employee training programs to ensure compliance with Canadian retail cannabis regulations.
  • Provide leadership and coaching on key HR issues, including performance management and employee development.
  • Oversee payroll activities, ensuring compliance with SOX and other financial regulations.
  • Suggest process improvements to enhance HR functions and scalability.

Requirements

  • Required: CPHR/SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Experience: 10-15 years of progressive HR management, ideally within a regulated public company.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting HR and organizational strategic objectives.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse HR functions and teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian employment laws and cannabis industry regulations.
  • Proven ability to make evidence-based recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to coach managers and employees.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience in the retail industry and/or cannabis sector is an asset.
